Steering System Functions

Vehicles are required to be operated easily and conveniently by the driver in various road conditions. Lots of types of steering systems that may not have been known by many people and their advantages and disadvantages. For example conventional steering system with steering system that has been using a power steering or a newer steering system that is Electric Power Steering. Steering system that can be run easily certainly  fungsi sistem kemudi can provide a sense of security and ease for the driver in controlling the car he drives.

From the introduction above, in accordance with what will be discussed is about the steering system. Therefore this paper will discuss in detail which is closely related to the steering system.

Steering System Functions

Steering System Functions

The function of the steering system is to adjust the direction of the vehicle by turning the front wheel. How it works when the steering wheel is turned, steering coulomn (steering rod) will continue its turning power to the steering gear. The steering gear enlarges this power so that a larger torque is produced for forwarding to the circle steering.

The circle steering will continue the steering gear movement to the front wheels. Type of steering system in medium to large vehicles that are widely used is a recirculating ball model and on light vehicles that are widely used are rack and pinion models.

Here are some things to consider in maintaining and maintaining Power Steering conditions to be durable and can keep working properly:

1. Make sure the wheels are in a straight position when parking.

Allowing the wheel position to bend too long will continue to burden the hydraulic pump on one side. This can cause damage to hydraulic systems in cars that use the type of Power Steering Hydraulic and Semi Hydraulic.

2. Avoid maximum steering wheel.

Rotating the steering wheel up and out the sound too often or long will increase the temperature and damage the rubber in the hydraulic system.

 3. Note the tire's wind pressure.

Lack of wind pressure on tires will make the Power Steering workload bigger. Both Hydraulic Power Steering, and Electric will be damaged face this condition.

 4. Reduce speed as it passes through the broken road.

Regardless of the type of Power Steering, crashing the streets at breakneck speed can easily damage many components. Two of them are rack steer axle and boot rack steer.

5. Replace components that have reached the age limit wear.

In general, the life of the Power Steering component reaches 5 years or after a distance of 100,000 km. The age of course can be more or less, in accordance with the way of driving and maintenance. The condition of other supporting components such as swing arm, ball joint, shock breaker, bearings and so on also affect the performance of Power Steering. Poor components on the legs of the car make it difficult to control the wheels made by Power Steering and force it to work harder.

 6. Avoid flooding.

In Power Steering type Electrical, especially Honda, electric motor mounted directly on the steering wheel, parallel to the axle. If the water gets submerged, the electric motor can be damaged. When it is damaged, the electric motor must be replaced because it can not be repaired.

 7. Perform regular hydraulic oil changes.

In Hydraulic and Semi Hydraulic Power Steering, hydraulic oil that has not been replaced long will lose its flexibility and cause the pump does not work optimally, especially if the oil is allowed to decrease so that the pump will work at pressure or unnatural conditions, causing damage to the pump oil.

Electrical Power Steering Treatment (EPS) is not as complicated as Hydraulic and Semi Hydraulic because most of its components use electrical system and controlled by computer, so that the damage happened more easily detected through indicator that delivered by computer. But generally the damage that occurs in the EPS system is difficult or irreparable, so the component must be replaced. Therefore, make it a habit to drive properly and treat well.
